Item Description
23.75x34" linen mounted to 24.75x36.75". "Black Panther Party For Self Defense" w/Emeryville, CA address at lower right. This poster is the most iconic image produced by the Bay Area civil rights group. Minister Of Defense Huey Newton sits, eyes fixed directly on the viewer, in a fan back wicker chair w/rifle in his right hand and an African spear in his left. At lower left appears quote "The Racist Dog Policemen Must Withdraw Immediately From Our Communities, Cease Their Wanton Murder And Brutality And Torture Of Black People, Or Face The Wrath Of The Armed People". Scattered small surface paper wrinkles along center line one affecting left side of Newton but otherwise only minor wear. Of the handful of examples we have encountered of this important image of American radicalism, this is far and away the finest example. Exc. No restoration and displaying magnificently.
