Item Description
Debuting in 1903, this featherweight apparently took his name from a famous fighter of the late 1880s and 1890s, Young Griffo (Albert Griffiths) from Australia who was famed as a defensive fighter skilled at dodging punches. The 4-3/8" tall ribbon badge has the text on a cello insert on the brass bar pin. Suspended is a celluloid sepia real photo with slightly concave tin covered back plus tabbed on brass accent rim. He wears odd trunks- looking like a padded jock strap held up by a belt. Likely from early in his career which ended in 1912-1914 with three bouts against middleweight Jack McCarron. Rare. One known. Exc. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
