Item Description
11.5x17" artboard trimmed from larger artboard by artist features 10.25x15.5" image area dominated by Damian Wayne's Robin, followed at upper left by Dick Grayson's Batman. Watercolor and mixed media painting original art is by J.G. Jones, noted for his work on comics Wanted and Final Crisis, working for both DC Comics and Marvel. This art was used as a variant cover to Batman And Robin #1, published by DC Comics Aug. 2009. Jones has signed and dated "09" at lower right corner; this signature was moved for publication. Bottom margin has pencil inscription from Jones, reading "For The Inimitable Chip Kidd. Hoo-Ha Indeed!" and was also signed by Jones again in bottom margin. Top margin has some stray watercoloring as painted, but image area remains clean and Exc. Jones' full color cover art is very desirable and does not come to auction often, let alone an example this stunning, featuring two main characters from the first issue of a title as popular as Batman And Robin. Comes w/reading copy of the issue this art was created for. From the collection of Chip Kidd, renowned author, graphic designer and pop culture enthusiast extraordinaire.
