Item Description
2-7/8x10" header card features Japanese text and Batman illustration on both sides. Header card is attached to original plastic bag containing playsuit/costume featuring silk-screened batsymbol on chest and cape w/large silk-screened image of Batman w/his name in Japanese characters. Licensed item released exclusively for the Japanese market by Takara, c. 1966. Comes w/illustrated card showing child wearing costume. Header card shows some wear w/moisture staining at center and is VG overall. Contents remain unused as factory-sealed and NM w/original cardboard still in place. Rare and the only example we know of. Image of this costume was used on "Dedications And Acknowledgements" page in Bat-Manga: The Secret History Of Batman In Japan by Chip Kidd, Geoff Spear and Saul Ferris. From the collection of Chip Kidd, renowned author, graphic designer and pop culture enthusiast extraordinaire.
