Item Description
17x23.5" frame w/matte opening of 6.75x8.75" revealing document at right and portrait of Hamilton at left. Treasury Circular addressing two issues; the first on incoming ships and assigning appropriate duties in the event they have been altered since the time of their Certificate of Registry and the second was an order for Collectors to accept currency notes of the Bank of the United States and its branches. Hamilton orders that "These Notes Being, In Fact, Notes Of The Bank Of The United States, Signed By Their President And Cashier, And Having The Same Leading Marks For Distinguishing Counterfeits From The Genuine, As Have Been Already Communicated To You, Are To Be Received And Exchanged In Like Manner As Heretofore Directed." Signed boldly at conclusion in black dip pen ink "A Hamilton." Well flattened horizontal and vertical folds and minor handling. VF. Not examined out of frame. An impressive display piece for the first Treasurer and mastermind of the American financial system. Comes w/Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
