Item Description
4" tall plaster roly-poly w/rounded dome base intended to wobble when touched. Underside rim reads "Bill The Beamer Co. New York Copyright 1909 By T.H. Trent." Taft is depicted smiling w/a baseball in one hand. Coat front reads "Bill The Beamer." Reverse "Our Mascot". The front brim of his hat has been repaired, otherwise only light wear from limited use. Displays Exc. Inspired by Taft's fondness for baseball which includes being the first president to throw a season opening "First Pitch", April 14, 1910 for the Washington Senators at Griffith Stadium in DC. Taft also is often credited for initiating the seventh inning stretch. A terrific cross collectible combining two of America's favorite pastimes politics and baseball. Mike Nichols Collection.
