Item Description
Sailor Jack, modeled on inventor F. W. Rueckheim's grandson, appeared in 1916 advertisements. By 1918, he had his newspaper sponsored club, largely in Illinois, but stretching to Iowa and even Utah. Members received this button and between 1918-1919 supported, along with "The Little Sisters Of Junior Jackies", the patriotic fervor of the homefront by knitting socks for soldiers or having basketball tournaments with proceeds turned over to the Red Cross. Very light surface wear in reflected light. Glossy and VF. About our fourth. Rare.
