Item Description
5x8". "New York Tribune" letterhead dated July 28, 1872. Hand written letter to General William Lorimer. Text includes "We Hope... To Carry At Least Two, Probably Three, Possibly Four New England States" in the 1872 election. The letter goes on to state his hope for a good showing in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey. He carried no northern states. The tiring campaign and loss was followed by his death weeks after the election. Signed boldly at conclusion "Horace Greeley" in black ink dip pen ink. Two horizontal folds as mailed, scattered moisture marks and moderate handling. Fine. Comes w/Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
