Item Description
2-3/8" oval, no maker, although curl reads "Made In U.S.A.". This was the first of eight tournaments held in Joe's hometown of Detroit at The Rackham Golf Club. There are rare "Contestant" buttons from this first one thru 1951. Louis loved golf and became the most influential amateur in the game's history. He also became more outspoken about discrimination in golf. It took until 1961 for the "Caucasian Only" clause to be deleted from the PGA constitution. Natural tarnish on reverse but the striking blue on silver cello is glossy NM. One known to us. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example #152. See next lot Louis golf buttons.
