Item Description
Pair of Knickerbockers dolls depicting Ferdinand the Bull and Matador from Disney's 1938 animated short Ferdinand The Bull. c. 1939. Ferdinand is 8.25" tall by 10" long and is complete w/fabric flower attachment in mouth and tail. Ferdinand is predominantly black and this doll is not to be confused w/the similar Ideal composition doll, which depicts Ferdinand as mostly dark brown. Comes w/bell-shaped, foil-covered die-cut string tag w/Ferdinand name on one side and Knickerbocker company information of the opposite side. Tag shows lt. wear and is VF. Tag is scarce. Painted composition doll shows some wear at joints w/typical crazing seen to top of head. Doll's legs and head are a bit loose and could be remedied w/re-string. As such, doll does not stand well. Still a nice condition example and much better than typically seen. VF/Exc. overall. Comes w/9.5" tall painted composition Matador doll w/velveteen matador hat, outfit and cape. Some lt. wear to forehead, nose and cheeks. Majority of white stocking paint has flaked off back of legs, but fronts remain nice for display and composition shows only lt. crazing. Hat is loose from one side but can be placed in position for display. Fine/VF. Matador doll is rare and this is first example we've offered in decades.
