Item Description
3.5" w/concave metal back and horizontal bar pin. Union bug and Bastian Bros. on curl. Unlisted in Hake. Tiny bump in top left field from bar pin construction. Moderate surface scratches from campaign use. Still Exc. A much above average specimen as these are typically found w/scattered foxing. A quintessential JFK campaign artifact that is highly coveted. Given the number of young women supporting JFK in 1960 it is a surprise to us that this button is so rarely offered. Some digging into newspapers of the period indicates the "Kennedettes" were scattered and small groups. We were only able to find two such groups mentioned in 1960 reporting, one from a Catholic high school in Charlotte, NC and another noted by the Miami News as a "Group Of 50" led by the wife of Miami Commissioner Henry Balaban.
