Item Description
Captained by the most famed naval commander of the American Revolution Capt. John Paul Jones, critical to the American victory at the Battle of Flamborough, utilized by "Father Of The American Navy' Capt. John Barry and responsible for the final shots fired of the Revolution- the USS Alliance was perhaps the most storied ship in the Continental Navy going undefeated in battle and helping the Colonists secure independence while embodying the spirit of individualism, strength and determination central to the idea of America.

This 2.25" dia. and 1.25" deep turned oak box features a hand inked paper insert inside lid reading "This Box Is A Piece Of The Old Ship Alliance Commanded By The Brave Scotsman Paul Jones A.D. 1778." This stirring text is followed by a carefully hand inked graphic of a snake coiled around text "Don't Tread On Me", a rendition of the iconic imagery on the Gadsden flag that remains among the most enduring images of the struggle for American independence. Insert has splits, one diagonally that affects design and expected light even age. Overall VF. The inking remains bright and paper insert is completely intact. The box itself is impeccably preserved and of superlative craftsmanship.

An incredible artifact of the Revolution patiently produced by an enterprising Colonist, undoubtedly enamored with the ship's illustrious history and the allure of Capt. Jones' naval exploits notably his widely lauded quote "I Have Not Yet Begun To Fight", in response to a request to surrender at the Battle of Flamborough. In our 55 years we have never encountered any similar relics of the Alliance, indicating these were not made in quantity as they would have undoubtedly been kept as family heirlooms passed through the generations surfacing at least occasionally. A special opportunity to obtain an important colonial era American Revolutionary War relic.
