Item Description
2.75" silvered brass and cello wrap. Top edge carries 1903 patent date but no maker name. However, our one other trick safe carried name of Cruver, Chicago. This unusual combo of choice color art and a b/w photo safe also has a trick feature. When lid is lifted to access matches, the opening is blocked by a cello sheet on a metal cover reading " If Unable To Open Call Upon/Jac. F. Donges/319 Third St., Milwaukee". The trick to open is a spring located on the right side edge about .75" down from the top. When pressed very hard, the metal plate flies up granting access to match compartment. One side panel repeats Donges name and address while opposite side panel has curious text "Gloves To Burn And Some That Don't Burn". Slight near hairline gap on side seam where cello ends are sealed. The seal is no longer intact, but the cello lays almost as if seal remained. VF. One seen and only our second trick opening safe. Alan Weinberg Collection.
