Item Description
1.25" w/W&H back paper introduced around December 1896 and used throughout 1897. For years, conventional wisdom was that this "Don't Bother Me" African-American fighter was Peter Jackson. However, a review of available photos strongly suggests the boxer pictured is Bob Armstrong, known as "King Of The Battle Royal" and the "Colored Heavyweight Champion Of The World" who succeeded Peter Jackson in 1897. There is a very tiny raised cello bump and equally tiny light spot at the top of his head. All else glossy and Exc. Scarce. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example. See next related button.
