Item Description
First is 2.75" tall cello wrapped matchsafe showing two boxers titled "A Match For You". This image is Fine but other 3 sides have black loss due to use. Still read closely the worn reverse shows U.M.W. logo with text "Compliments of Whitehead & Hoag/Co/Building/Indianapolis, Ind". Side edges missing letters but reads "Official Badge Makers Of The United Mine Workers Of America". Opposite edge missing letters but reads "Badges (next two words missing except for B of what had to be) Buttons/Advertising Novelties, Etc." Good. Rare. Among the very earliest cello wrapped safes and by W&H as a self-promotion give-away from the Indiana office. Paul Muchinsky Collection. The next three are Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Examples. First is #46 a 1.25" w/Quimby/Minneapolis backpaper c. 1908 of Jim Jeffries  in a ring. Many tiny gray dots, many cracks but full gloss. One known. Second is #372, 1.5" no maker, c. 1910, unknown subject and w/four cracks but glossy and clean. Rare. Third is #373, 5.25" ribbon badge likely for a "Member" of a boxing club. By W&H w/1892/93 patents but w/1.75" cello likely more 1896-98. However, behind the cream ribbon was once a longer blue ribbon that has been trimmed off likely due to damage. What remains is Exc. and a  very early cello used for boxing.
