Item Description
11.5x23". Framed August 31, 1862 Superior Safety Council broadside and three CDV photos by Joel Whitney. 5.75x7". Public Order No. 1 required all families to sleep inside a patrolled safe zone and asserted that any merchant caught selling ammunition or liquor to Native Americans would be arrested and their property forfeited. Issued by Washington Ashton, Thomas H. Hogan and R.G. Coburn. We cannot find another example. Exc. with uneven trim. Displayed with Whitney Carte de Visites of Little Crow, Cut Nose and Ta-Tanka-Nazin (Standing Buffalo), all three cited in margin as participants of the Dakota War. Cut Nose was one of the 38 men hanged in Lincoln's December 26, 1862 public execution. Little Crow Good w/edge damage and corner loss, Cut Nose and Ta-Tanka-Nazin Fine.
