Item Description
8.5" long woven silk ribbon inc. original tassel. Scattered dots of foxing and light handling wear. VF. 4.5x7" trade card w/scene of garment workers and portrait of Powderly on wall behind. Slogan at bottom "By Industry We Thrive." Verso has ad for "The Great China And Pacific Tea Co." w/address in South Boston and Charlestown, MA. Light even age w/minor corner rounding. VF. Bold colors make both artifacts standouts. Powderly was elected Grand Master Workman leader of the Knights of Labor and help the group become the largest labor organizations of the 1880s. The group lost membership after being blamed largely for the 1886 Haymarket Riot. See next two lots for related material.
