Item Description
7.25" long. A New Jersey ballot featuring the portraits of James B. Weaver and Barzillai J Chambers. Below the portraits are the New Jersey slate of electors for the Greenbacks, as well as the down-ballot candidates of Thomas D. Hoxsey for Governor, Washington L. Hope for Congress, and William C. Jennings for state assembly. The ballot retains nice contrast and bold lettering, but has several creases and a few small edge rips. VF. The Greenbacks would serve as a precursor of sorts to the Populists of the 1890s, and Weaver continued on to be the standard bearer of the People's Party (Populist) in 1892, as he carried on the fight against the gold standard and monopolies in the interest of American farmers. Bill Hoffman Collection.
