Item Description
1.25" with photos of McKinley and Hobart below while above is a photo of Roscoe Conkling, leader of the Stalwart faction of the Republican Party in the 19th century, with the word "Unconditionals" printed below. "Conkling Unconditionals" group name originated in 1880 by his supporters. The term "Unconditionals" dates back to 1863, referring to New York politicians opposed to Lincoln's 1864 re-nomination. Button has some small and widely scattered tan spotting but still displays nicely with perfect centering and high gloss. Reverse has unusual backpaper design that includes W&H patent dates along with the name of button jobber "National Campaign Equipment Co." Reverse celluloid has four 1/16" or smaller tiny splits along the collet but they lay flat enough to not create any edge bumps when viewed from the front. A rare trigate likely used only around Utica, New York. Unlisted in Hake. Rare.
