Item Description
1.5" (38mm). Ferrotypes mounted at center of floral grape cluster motif solid white metal rim holed for suspension. Moderate wear from limited circulation. Butler is featured in military uniform w/full name and rank above. Mark in field at 10 o'clock is in image as made. Otherwise a couple of tiny dots of missing emulsion along extreme outer edge and light even surface wear. Reverse features portrait of Ellsworth, the first Union casualty of the Civil War. Light surface wear from minimal use. Overall VF. Likely produced around the Civil War era as a pro-union badge and the first we can recall encountering in our 55 years.
