Item Description
8x10" plastic spiral bound album containing 52 original photographs produced in 1976. Hand assembled album has early Ralph McQuarrie triangular logo for "the Star Wars" and hand cut typewritten copyright label, "C" has green pen circle drawn to make "©" symbol. This album contains original hand-printed photographs from the camera negatives taken on set. There were hundreds of photographs taken with minor variations, such as characters looking left, right or different angles. The studio selected the best ones to produce a negative for use to promote the film in newspaper and magazine publications. Magazines, such as Time, wanted exclusive images that competitors wouldn't have, which is why the studio had such a variety of photographs to choose from. This particular album is believed to be one of only a handful produced to send to the three contracted toy manufacturers as design guidelines for the toys produced in conjunction with the film's release. George Lucas's Star Wars was the first film to introduce merchandise in a global way to increase the film's popularity and revenue - thus a franchise was born. The photographs in this particular album are a superior quality to the ones used to promote the film, as these were probably shot on a large format camera. Each photo still has been hand numbered in pencil on backside. Lt. aging/handling wear. First photo has small tear at upper right edge, minor soiling at top and right edge. Overall this rare example is in very nice condition w/photos Fine to NM.
