Item Description
2-3/8x3.5" rectangular press pass designated for Dick Bergholz, a reporter for the LA Times. Bergholz was known for asking tough questions, and in his obituary in 2000, the Times reported that questions he asked of Nixon in 1962 were "far more biting than anything the former Vice President had encountered in Washington" and Bergholz apparently "got under Nixon's skin." After his defeat to Pat Brown in the election, Nixon famously gave his last press conference address where he famously quipped, "you don't have Nixon to kick around any more." Bergholz's tough questioning during the campaign was likely a contributing factor to Nixon's bitterness w/the press. Pass has metal attachment, perhaps meant to hang as luggage tag. Encased in thick clear plastic, which has moderate surface wear. Extremely Fine. An interesting press piece from Nixon's fateful 1962 campaign. John Pendergrass Collection.
