Item Description
7/8" w/horizontal bar pin-back.  Event spanning three days from May 13-15, 1901. Just prior to his arrival to San Jose, McKinley's wife fell ill and she was taken to San Francisco to recuperate. According to reporting by the Evening Mail (Stockton, CA), McKinley's attendance at the carnival was in doubt after his wife's illness, but upon "the announcement that the improvement in the condition of Mrs. McKinley would permit the President to come to San Jose...the cloud of gloom" by the disappointed locals was lifted, the event turned out to be a great success. Interesting red and yellow design of the button, w/a portrait of McKinley flanked by roses. Some edge staining on the extreme outer edges. Otherwise, light wear in reflected light. VF.  Scarce. Larry Brokofsky Collection.
