Item Description
1.25", no maker's name, was produced for matches beginning Wed. Jan. 9, 1935 at Madison Square Garden to great anticipation and full coverage in the New York Times. Spring pin holds 4" tall wooden racket with three ribbons in white w/50% remaining, in blue w/edge tear and two thirds remaining and red w/100% remaining. At top is Bill Tilden, the 1920-26 world champion who was playing with Ellsworth Vines (at bottom) against the world's outstanding doubles team of 1934, George Lott (left) and Lester Stoefen (right) who were making their professional debut. The earliest tennis button known to us, one of two known to us and the only one known to us w/the hangers still present. The button has pale gray faint scattered and very minor background marks. High gloss and VF.
