Item Description
2.25x7". Commemorating the beginning of the construction on Davis Monument. The monument was funded by the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Jefferson Davis Monument Association, and it was completed in 1907. In 2020, the statue of Davis on the monument was toppled by protestors. Ribbon features portrait of Davis flanked by Confederate flags. The laying of the cornerstone coincided w/the sixth annual reunion of the United Confederate Veterans. Ribbon has even age toning and some fraying at the top and bottom edges, as well as a few scattered light brown stains. Retains vibrant color, particularly impressive in the reds of the flag. VF. Bob Westerman Collection.
