Item Description
15/16" w/Green Duck Co. on verso. Candidate's portrait w/Communist logo and "1925" flanking. Additional text "Workers Party For Mayor Gitlow Election Campaign." Gitlow was freed in 1922 on bail because of a writ of error related to his conviction on criminal anarchy charges in 1920. After serving as his party's Vice Presidential candidate in 1924 Gitlow was the party's choice for New York's Mayoral contest. He was jailed again in June of 1925 and returned to Sing Sing prison. Scattered tiny missing dots of paint contained to outer edges. Exc. Rarely offered and only the third we recall encountering in our 55 years.
