Item Description
7/8" litho by Green Duck Co. Paint wear around circumference from use and a less than 1/8" spot of missing paint affecting the "Ro" in "Roosevelt". Fine. Rare. This campaign marks Roosevelt's return to politics after a bout w/polio left him paralyzed and contemplating retirement from public life. Smith encouraged Roosevelt to pursue the position he was vacating to accept the Democratic Party's presidential nomination by telling FDR that only he could defeat Republican Albert Ottinger in the NY race. While Smith lost in a landslide and Democratic victories in the 1928 cycle were few and far between, FDR managed to eke out a 1% victory over Ottinger. The first we can recall being offered publicly in about a decade. A truly historic and rare button from a critical moment in American political history.
