Item Description
3.5x8x5" tall tin litho toy w/built-in key © 1930 Correll & Gosden. Toy comes in very nicely designed box illustrated on all sides. Front panel features scene of the front of the Fresh Air Taxi Cab Co. w/Amos and Andy shown behind front window, back panel is scene of them driving their cab and running over a puddle of water which splashes in a police officer's face. Right and left side panels show front of lodge hall and temporary closed bank. The top and bottom side panels feature same portraits of them. The inside end flaps have additional cut-out pieces including coat rack, table and stove. One of the four flaps is missing which had cut-outs of a lamp and barrel of wood. The right end flap and inside flap have been reattached on inside w/tape. One side panel featuring portraits has an 8" vertical crease w/tape reinforcement also added to the interior. Box has some additional lt. creases but for display purposes, still has nice shape to it and all graphics remain strong. Technically VG but front and back panels still display about VF. Toy comes w/additional 5x7.5" thick cardboard sheet w/cut-out standup figures of Amos and Andy, their dog and a basket of rolled up papers. Sheet has lt. wear, mostly to the blank reverse. Front still displays Exc. The toy is complete w/horseshoe hood ornament and crank plus separate figures of Amos, Andy and their dog. Also has the original plastic windshield. Car's body has Amos and Andy-related text including "Fresh Air Taxi Cab Company Of America Inc./Check And Double Check," etc. Car has simulated wear and tear such as dents and dings, patched tires plus mud splotches on fenders and running boards. Toy works and car travels forward before coming to a stop. It then shakes as the figures of Amos and Andy bounce up and down, toy then resumes its forward motion. Scattered minor paint nicks but remains VF and a much nicer example than usually found. Rarely found complete, the box is about 10 times rarer than the toy and the cut-out sheet about 20 times rarer.
