Item Description
2.5x3.5". The 1989 Upper Deck Baseball set consists of 800 cards. The company released the set in two separate series' - low-numbers (#s 1-700) and high-numbers (701-800). High-series packs contained a mixture of both low- and high-series cards. The cards are printed on slick paper stock, with a color image on the front and his name and team logo noted at the bottom corner. Card backs are also printed in full color with the addition of a hologram designed to protect against counterfeiting. Error and corrected versions exist for the rookie card of Gary Sheffield (#13) and the regular issue card of Dale Murphy (#357, with the error bearing a reverse negative). Subsets include rookie stars (#s 1-26) and collector's choice art cards (#s 668-693).

George Kenneth Griffey Jr., nicknamed "Junior" and "the Kid", is an American former professional baseball outfielder who played 22 years in Major League Baseball (MLB). He spent most of his career with the Seattle Mariners and Cincinnati Reds, along with a short stint with the Chicago White Sox. A thirteen-time All-Star, Griffey is one of the most prolific Home Run hitters in baseball history; his 630 home runs rank as the seventh most in MLB history. Griffey was also an exceptional defender and won ten Gold Glove Awards in centerfield. He is tied for the record of most consecutive games with a home run (eight, with Don Mattingly and Dale Long). Griffey was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, receiving 99.32% of the vote, breaking pitcher Tom Seaver's record of 98.84%, a record that had stood for 24 years.  This is the key rookie card of one of the best all-around players in baseball history. While Ken Griffey, Jr. was overshadowed by Barry Bonds and hampered by injuries late in his career, he accomplished some amazing feats. This card, one of the most symbolic cards of the modern era, is subject to one hidden flaw. Many Griffey rookies contain a factory wrinkle on the reverse, which can severely diminish the grade of an otherwise Mint card.
