Item Description
2-5/8x3.75". The 1955 Topps Baseball set consists of 206 cards. Numerically the smallest Topps issue, the 1955 presentation was originally meant to total 210 cards, but card #s 175, 186, 203, and 209 were never produced. The redesigned set marked the first use of a horizontal format for player depictions through the entire production run - a design change coincidentally adopted by rival Bowman that same year. Unchanged by Topps was the two-image design, with every player depicted in a portrait and an action illustration, and sharing space with a colorful team logo. As had been true of earlier releases, all the 1955 Topps "High Numbers," - #s 161 to 210 - prove more challenging as they were forced to compete with the fall issuance of football cards.

Theodore Samuel Williams was an American professional baseball player and manager. He played his entire 19-year Major League Baseball (MLB) career, primarily as a left fielder, for the Boston Red Sox from 1939 to 1960; his career was interrupted by military service during World War II and the Korean War. Nicknamed "Teddy Ballgame", "the Kid", "the Splendid Splinter", and "The Thumper", Williams is regarded as one of the greatest hitters in baseball history and to date is the last player to hit over .400 in a season. Some of his many career highlights include being a 19 time All-Star, two time MVP and two time Triple Crown winner. Ted Williams was inducted into the National Baseball Hall Of Fame in 1966.
