Item Description
9.5x12" w/10x12.5" menu cover. Bravure-Photochrome Eng. Co. Menu features a patriotic design of the Capitol w/draped flags and a wreath at the bottom highlighting the many facets of the life of the Honorable Chauncey Depew, including: "Statesman, Publicist, Orator, Lawyer". Depew was elected in 1899, defeating Democratic incumbent, Edward Murphy Jr. This event was held one week after Depew was sworn into the U.S. Senate, held at the Lotos Club in NYC on March 11, 1899. Signed by Theodore Roosevelt, the newly-elected NY Governor at the time, as well as Depew, David B. Hill, U.S. General during the Spanish-American War, and others on the front. On the reverse are the signatures of the "Lotos Orphans". Menu has a faint red stain in the bottom right corner, as well as light surface wear and handling. Floral red folder has moderate surface and handling, including scattered tears along the edges. Overall VF. An interesting signed item from TR's pre-presidential days that includes the signatures of other prominent leaders in the U.S. Government. Comes w/Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
