Item Description
2.25" w/curl naming maker Cruver, Chicago. Pictures 19 uniformed players in ovals w/their last name and position below. Importantly, the portrait of Honus Wagner utilizes the identical image to his world famous T206 tobacco card. With their new home ballpark opening midway through the 1909 season to standing room only crowds, the Pittsburgh Pirates stormed through their National League schedule, winning the title w/one of the top records of all-time, 110-42 under National Baseball Hall of Fame player/manager Fred Clarke. The offense was led by the great Honus Wagner, arguably the best shortstop in Major League Baseball history. Fellow HOF'er Vic Willis led the Pirates mound corps with a 22 win season in '09. The Pirates would go on to defeat the American League champion, Detroit Tigers w/Ty Cobb in seven games to take one of the most exciting World Series championships ever played. Varieties of this mirror were also made w/sponsor names of "Golden Cafe" and "National Telephone Company." All three versions were in the Muchinsky Collection and all realized over $2,000 in our auctions. This example has only trivial wear to the mirror back. Front surface has moderate wear w/some tiny impression lines but nearly all is only seen in reflected light. Surface remains glossy. Fine. Scarce.
