7.75x9.5". Dated August 30, 1863. Addressed to Maj. General Thomas, a southern Unionist who earned the nickname the "Rock of Chickamauga". Subject is directing Thomas to guard a rail lin in the Bridgeport area until relieved by another unit. Signed by Brigadier Chief of Staff James A. Garfield. Moderate surface wear and handling, including a a few scattered edge tears and some folds. VF. Comes w/Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
