Item Description
1" no maker but bug from Aberdeen, WA. Button references Nov. 5, 1916 event. About 300 Wobblies were on two steamers sailing to Everett for an afternoon public demonstration to rally converts to the cause of One Big Union.
Town citizens got word armed anarchists were coming to burn the town. 200 deputized citizens gathered at the dock
to meet  the steamer Verona which arrived first. One shot was fired followed by chaotic shooting from both the dock and the boat. On the dock, were 2 dead and 20 wounded while on the ship the I.W.W. officially listed 5 dead and 27 wounded ( but likely it was 12 dead counting bodies eventually recovered from the bay). This button was given to donors who contributed to the costs of defense for 74 arrested Wobblies and Thomas Tracy who was charged with murder but acquitted. after highly publicized trial. Exc.
