Item Description
7/8" w/ union bug on curl at 3 o'clock. The 1924 Democratic National Convention was perhaps the most contentious in U.S. history. William McAdoo and Al Smith were the two frontrunners going into the election. The issues of Prohibition and the Ku Klux Klan were some of the key divides within the Democratic Party at the time and the party was divided between a more liberal northern faction and a more conservative southern faction. After 100 ballots, McAdoo and Smith both agreed to concede, and on the 103rd ballot, dark horse John W. Davis got the nomination. Smith decided to run for re-election as the NY Governor. This button is a coattail for Davis and the eventual 1928 Democratic nominee, Al Smith. While Davis lost in a landslide to Coolidge, Smith was able to defeat Teddy Roosevelt, Jr. in his bid for the Governor's mansion. Light surface wear seen in reflected light and minor tucking error along the collet at 9 o'clock that is stable and does not affect display. Technically Extremely Fine.
