Item Description
1.25" with W&H back paper. While the button specifies a single day, August 27, 1901, this was actually a much discussed and well attended event in Kingman, KS that drew thousands over the course of three days August 27-29. The local cattlemen sponsored the event with donations. Citizens surveyed by the local newspaper were largely opposed to the event becoming a "street fair". Most preferred the previous year's format. Thus, the main attractions included livestock and farm implement displays and what were called "field sports" consisting of horse racing, cattle roping, bronco busting," foot ball", and "base ball". For extra interest, there was a shooting match open to all and a Pioneer-Day Stage Robbery reenactment complete with Native Americans and volunteer stage coach passengers. Limited issue, as this is the first in our 56 years. Rare and Exc. One of the very earliest rodeo- related pin-backs.
