It attempted to curry favor w/the KKK, but the Klan leadership rejected the alliance w/the American Party, not based on a difference in principles, but rather because it felt the third party stood no chance of victory. The Klan decided to stay officially neutral, although there were accusations that the Klan leadership was secretly backing Coolidge.
