Item Description
3.5" w/cardboard back and horizontal bar pin. "Washington 28" union bug in field. Surface wear and scattered staining throughout. VG. A rainy and long election day has resulted in most of the few surviving examples of this historic button being similarly stained. This example was the personal badge of Richard McCormack, a one time candidate for a US House seat and a key aide to JFK during the 1960 campaign. A notable story McCormack told the Stone Hill College Alumni Magazine; "Kennedy asked McCormack how his (US House) campaign was going. "I told him I needed two things," McCormack recalls, "money and prayers." According to McCormack, Kennedy's response was, "I'll pray for you.". This button has never been marketed publicly and was consigned by the family.
