Item Description
The 1887 N284 Buchner Gold Coin baseball card set was produced by D. Buchner & Company of New York and distributed with Gold Coin chewing tobacco. The front of the cards features a colorful drawing of a baseball scene which bears no correlation to the players on the card.  Printed on the bottom of the card is the player's name, position and team name. The backs of the N284 set include an advertising message from Gold Coin chewing tobacco. Thomas Burns was an American infielder and manager in Major League Baseball, primarily for the Chicago White Stockings/Colts/Orphans. He also played for, and managed, the Pittsburgh Pirates for part of one season, and he returned to the Chicago team for two years as its manager after his major-league playing career ended.
