Item Description
2" ribbon w/ brass hanger suspends 1.75" domed celluloid in a brass rim. Reverse metal back carries W&H stamp. Slight discoloration on the ribbon but legend is clear. Most luster off the brass rim and some light age tone on right side of the cello. This "Dewey Day" preceded celebrations in New York on Sept. 30 and in D.C. on Oct. 3. This defeat of the Spanish fleet was heralded by the Chicago Tribune in 1898 as "Vengeance For The Maine Has Begun". Fine. Only one known to us. Rare.
