Item Description
5x7.5". Mounted on stock. Dated July 22, 1868. Addressed "To The Editor Of The Argus". Letter written just weeks after Seymour's nomination for President at the Democratic National Convention. Letter requesting that the enclosed speech of Senator Hendricks be published in the Argus. Thomas Hendricks was the Senator of Indiana at the time, and one of the other leading contenders for the nomination at the convention. Although he lost the nomination to Seymour, he was nominated for Vice President twice, once in 1876 w/Samuel Tilden, and again in 1884 w/Grover Cleveland. He served as Vice President until his death in 1885. Moderate handling most notably along the edges. A few tiny pin holes at the top above the date. VF. Comes w/JSA LOA.
