Item Description
Each is 7/8" with either American Pepsin Gum or W&H back paper; however five are without paper and two show age. Issued during the Spanish - American War, each set consists of 15 (or 16) named "United States War Ship (s)" and two US Cruiser (s). The first set, mainly blue and green, show the same ships as those on a white background with tiny flag and the title "The White Squadron". There are 16 in the White Squadron set as New York comes either with or without a hypen. In the set of 17, five have small age marks. In the set of 18 (White Squadron) three have small age marks. Both are scarce as full sets.
