Item Description
5.25x8". Dated October 19, 1868. Philadelphia. Addressed to A. B. Brown. Contents of letter are of that of regret on Dickinson's part for being unable to accept an invitation from Brown. A few small pieces of tape on reverse for stabilization. Some faint stains, mostly along center fold, otherwise moderate handling, including a tiny tear along the top edge. VF, will frame above grade. Dickinson was an abolitionist and advocate for women's rights. She first gained her reputation as an activist when she published an essay in William Lloyd Garrison's Liberator newspaper at the age of 14. Over the course of her life as a reformer, she became friends w/Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, as well as a love interest of Benjamin Butler. Comes w/JSA LOA.
