Item Description
This is by far the rarest Orphan Annie ring and one of the rarest of all premium rings. Very briefly issued by Quaker cereals during their final year of the LOA radio program sponsorship in 1942. All brass ring has adjustable bands w/"Pursuit Plane" pictured on one side and "Bombing Plane" on the opposite. Ring top has a small rivet holding three individual moveable plates. Each plate has a small hole of graduated sizes and the concept is to hold the ring to the sky to look at an airplane. If the airplane image fits within one of these holes then the plane is at an altitude designated on one of these three pieces as - 2,500, 5,000 or 10,000 feet. Band has notable bends done to adjust size to fit a finger. Moderate scattered luster wear but much remains, especially on the side designs and plates. Still a Fine example of a ring for which there only about a dozen examples known.
