Item Description
7/8" w/union bug at 6 o'clock. Features a youthful portrait of Smith. A touch off-center, otherwise only light wear. Exc. as made. In 1916 Smith was elected as the eighth President of the Board of Aldermen. It was the last political office he held prior to his first election to the NY governorship in 1918. He would go on to serve as Governor for four terms from 1919-1928, and was the Democratic nominee for President in 1928, becoming the first Catholic presidential candidate of a major party. A scarce early career item for the "Happy Warrior".
