Item Description
5.75x8.25" hardcover w/dust jacket. Published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1970. The debut novel of Alice Walker (the first African-American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for fiction; for 1982's The Color Purple), this is a first edition and has been inscribed/signed by Walker on front endpapers in black felt tip pen to artist Edith Kaplan, reading "To Edith Kaplan, Whose Orange & Yellow '70¢' Woodcut Hangs Over My Desk. Best Always, Alice Walker - 1970." First page has inked owner note at top. Book's original, unclipped dust jacket shows obvious aging and wear, including moderate to heavy wear at top/bottom of spine and wear top top/bottom edges. 3/8x.75" hole on spine partially obscures part of "Copeland" from title. Dust jacket is VG overall. Book itself shows some corner tip wear and some lt. scattered surface loss to clothbound spine. Covers have some margin aging and corner tip wear. Fine/VF overall w/Exc. pages. Comes w/JSA LOA.
