Item Description
1.75". No maker. This is the mate to the next lot, Maris button. Both are rare and desirable buttons for one of the baseball's most storied events. This historic race for the home-run total ended in September when Mantle suffered an injury, but Maris continued hitting home-runs including (at the time) the record-breaking 61st on October 1, 1961. Mantle was inducted into the National Baseball Hall Of Fame in 1974. Trivial surface wear only seen upon magnification. Bright, glossy and Exc. Only a few examples known of each button. Our last Mantle, from the Muchinsky Collection, sold in our Sept. 2020 auction for $4,066.
