Item Description
Clothbound hardcover w/258 pages, this edition of Mary Shelley's masterpiece includes eight full-page photo illustrations from James Whale's 1931 Universal film adaptation. Published by Grosset & Dunlap, 1931. Complete w/unclipped dust jacket. Cover has some lt. wear to top/bottom of spine and some lt. corner tip wear. Endpapers have moderate aging and pages have aged to cream in color w/a few spots of darker aging to pages facing photo plates. Plates showcase scenes from the film, w/first - "The Monster Made By Frankenstein" - featuring Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's Monster. Great double-page spread shows Dr. Frankenstein (Colin Clive) and Fritz (Dwight Frye) in the laboratory, about to bring Frankenstein's creation to life. "The Monster Is Loose!" plate shows Elizabeth (Mae Clarke) collapsed across a bed (an image repeated on the dust jacket). Book is VF overall. Dust jacket features great Karloff image (in addition to the aforementioned Clarke image) and has moderate aging to spine, which shows obvious wear at top and slightly less wear at bottom. Some scattered heavy edge wear, resulting in notable splits. .25x2" chip to top of front. Good/VG overall. Scarce in any condition, this book remains one of the most sought-after Photoplay editions.
