Item Description
4" overall. While Al Smith was a Democratic hopeful in 1924, and received the nomination in 1928, being defeated in the general election by Herbert Hoover, he was also a leading choice among the Democrats in 1932. At the nominating convention, he received 201 votes on the first ballot, compared to the 666 votes of Franklin Roosevelt. It took four votes for FDR to receive the number of delegates necessary to get the nomination, and Massachusetts never wavered in its support of Smith, giving him all 36 of the state's delegates in all four rounds of the balloting. Ribbon has even age toning w/ moderate wear. Medal has only light wear. Overall Extremely Fine. An interesting post-1928 badge in support of the "Happy Warrior" of New York.
