Item Description
22x28" thin cardboard window card by Globe Poster in Baltimore, MD. c. 1940s. Eye catching, exploitive, text reads only "Freak Show" and "Strange People" dancing around portraits of the stars of Tod Browning's 1932 film Freaks. It is unclear if these performers were actually involved in this show or being bootlegged. Seen here are Frances O'Connor (aka the Living Venus de Milo), Jenny Lee or Elvira Snow, Olga Roderick, Prince Randian (aka the Living Torso), Schilitzie Surtees and Peter Robinson (aka the Living Skeleton). Snake charmer w/beaded sheer gown and reptile curling towards her neck occupies right half of poster. Rare subject on the bold graphic design that makes Globe Posters famous. Several puncture holes have been taped from behind, including two w/touch up in the black field. Pin holes in margins. VF. Fred Hoffman Collection.
